My Daughter's 1st Birthday Party: Ideas Brought to Life

Okay, I've been planning my baby's first birthday party for a couple of months... mainly making all of the stuff that was apart of the party. I previously posted ideas I was looking at to implement at my baby's birthday party. In the above picture you can see the tutu that I made her. I actually ended up cutting about 2 or 3 inches from the bottom because I thought it was just a little too long. Anyhow, here's the rest of what I did...

I used a piece of poster board and series of different pieces of card stock paper to create this sign to welcome party guests...

The party favors. I used a template I found on another blog to make the boxes. I filled them with NutriGrain bars (strawberry), Dora Gummy Bears, mini Fruit Roll Ups, mini candy bars and suckers. I wrapped them with clear cellophane (rolling out lengths of 21" pieces for each box) and finished them with 2 different shades of pink of curly ribbon.

I added a label to the front that read: "A gift for you. Thak you for coming to my party!"

Here's a banner that I made inspired by a banner I saw on JL Designs website. I loved it so much I decided to make my own. It actually looks much better in person. I used a satin-like material and hand-drew everything onto it. Using graphite paper makes this project a lot easier to do. I created what I wanted using Word, printed it out and just traced it onto my material using the graphite paper. I tried using a fabric marker but it seemed to bleed too much so I used a my trusty Sharpie and came out with this...

Another fantastic idea I found online were cupcakes in a jar. I thought this was a great item to have and it was a hit. I used this idea and made it my own. I used 8oz canning jars instead of the suggested jars from the site simply because the cost to have the jars shipped made them entirely too expensive. I found these jars at Kmart for only $8.99 for a case of 12. That was the cheapest I found. I did find some at Big Lots for $7.99 but they were 16oz jars... too big. The 8oz jars were perfect because the cake sat at the bottom with the icing leaving enough room for a scoop of ice cream which was a major hit at the party for the adults and the kids.

The label on the front of the jars read: A Cupcake Just For You. Enjoy! I used this punch to create the elegant shape of the label. All of the labels (on front and lid top) were attached using glue dots. Which made them easily removable.

I added butterflies to the tops of all of the jars which I thought would be super cute. I simply used a butterfly punch from Hobby Lobby (using a 40% off coupon of course) to create the butterflies. I also used a Fiskars punch to create the scallopped edged circle.

This happy birthday banner stretched across my living room wall, so wide the picture was taken in sections. The flash washed out some of patterns on the paper. It took me a while to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with the banner and came up with this popular idea using flags. I printed out the letters and glued them to my flags. I also created mini pom-poms found on Martha Stewart's website. For the small one's I used 5 sheets of tissue paper which were cut down and accordian folded. I cut the ends to create a a point.

I created my own template to make my banner. Here it is...

Birthday Banner Flag Template
It makes 3 flags on a 8.5"x11" sheet of paper. 2 flags points down and the 3rd is in the middle.

The spread of food was great. I made my own strawberry lemonade which everyone LOVED. The fruit and wings were fantastic too.

The fruit looked great thanks to my mom.

There were also lots of these tissue paper pom-poms (see Martha Stewart's website) that I made hanging all over our living room...

Be sure to let me know if you want to know how I did something or if you need my help in creating a special day for someone you know and love. :)

  3. Thank you so much! I absolutely love the cupcake in a jar idea. Afterward the party everyone left their jars which I intended for them to keep. So now, I have plenty of jars for the next party or project! :)

    1. Honestly, the adults new each other and just enjoyed adult conversation while watching the kids play. I had coloring pages and crayons for the kids although they had more fun playing with baloons and running back and forth from the front door to the dining room.
